The readings in the Quarter links were used in a Bible study curriculum that covers the whole Bible in 2 years. All classes studied from the same scriptures in a chronological order, based on The Narrated Bible. Sunday classes studied the New Testament and Wednesday night classes studied the Old Testament. At the end of the quarter we scheduled a Bible Bowl with teams competing to answer the questions for the quarter. We had signal buttons, lights, buzzers... the whole shebang! Some quarters had a Singing on the final Wednesday of the quarter. We actually stopped using this curriculum at the end of the 6th quarter, due to difficulties in getting study questions written. This is very time-consuming. Without study guides, many of the teachers (especially of children's classes) felt overwhelmed and lost. We also found that we had not divided the scriptures into bite-sized pieces consistently. The New Testament sections in the first 4 quarters were large, leaving smaller amounts to study in the second year. The Old Testament was the reverse - the second year requires more reading in a week than did the first year. Overall, we feel that the effort was worthwhile. Many of our members got to study parts of the Bible that they had never read before. Going in chronological order helped immensely to put the various books in context. |
